The routes lead from See via Kappl and Galtür to Ischgl, showcasing the Paznaun Valley at its most impressive. Each section reveals new scenery, new challenges – and above all, the feeling of being part of something truly special.

An overview of the Challenges

The pro Challenge 2 is the most demanding route of the PIUT. It starts in See and leads over 100 kilometres and 6,300 metres in altitude to Kappl and Galtür before finishing in Ischgl. The route follows stages 1, 2, 7 and 4 of the Paznaun High Route, including a loop over Lake Zeinissee and the Verwall mountains in Galtür. The route passes prominent points such as the Ascher Hütte, Alpe Gamperthun, Niederelbehütte, Rauher Kopf, Berglisee and Zeinissee as well as the Grieskogel and Friedrichshafener Hütte before ending in Ischgl after a final valley section. This tour will challenge even the most experienced trail runners and combines four extreme ascents and descents, technical passages, summit victories and unforgettable panoramic views of the fascinating alpine landscape.

The pro Challenge 1 is the second longest route of the PIUT. It starts in See and leads over 85 km and 5,200 metres in altitude to Kappl and mathon to the finish in Ischgl. The route runs along stages 1, 2, 7 and 4 of the Paznaun High Route and passes prominent points such as the Ascher Hütte, the Alpe Gamperthun, the Niederelbehütte, the Rauher Kopf and the Berglisee before finishing in Ischgl. This challenge is aimed at the most experienced trail runners and offers a combination of extreme climbs, technical passages and breathtaking views of the alpine surroundings. 

Cut-Off – PIUT85

  • 7:00 a.m. Kappl
  • 12:30 p.m. Ischgl

The intense challenge of the PIUT starts in Kappl and stretches from there over 50 km and 3,100 metres in altitude to Galtür and Ischgl. The first section of the route runs backwards along parts of stage 7 of the Paznaun High Route and passes the Diasalpe and the Niederelbehütte, followed by an ascent via Vergröß and the Madleinbach. On the southern side of the valley, the route continues via Innerbergli and Außerbergli to Galtür, after which the final section leads along the valley path to Ischgl. This run offers an intense challenge that leads through the picturesque and varied alpine landscape of the Paznaun and requires both physical and mental endurance. 

PIUT 50, 30, 20 and PIUT TEN – the only cut-off time is 10.00 pm.

The ultimate challenge of the PIUT starts in Galtür and runs over 30 km and 1,540 metres in altitude on the north-western side of the valley to Ischgl. Based on stage 5 of the Paznaun High Route, the route leads over the Zeinissee lake to the Friedrichshafener Hütte lodge. There you run a high alpine loop along the variant of stage 6, followed by the descent via the Madleinbach to Ischgl. Due to its high alpine character, this Skyrace should not be underestimated despite the comparatively low number of kilometres and is designed for experienced runners.

The PIUT tough challenge starts in Ischgl and leads over 20 km and 1,300 metres in altitude through the alpine landscape between Ischgl and Galtür. The majority of the route runs along stage 4 of the Paznaun High Route and passes picturesque places such as the Pardatscher See, the Rauher Kopf and the Berglisee. The route challenges runners with demanding climbs and rewards them with breathtaking views. Ideal for anyone who wants to test their limits and enjoy the beauty of nature.

The ITRA National League is a new and exciting initiative that is open to ALL trail running enthusiasts and aims to promote the sport at a national level. With this initiative, ITRA aims to support regional races, promote competition in each country, create an inclusive league and help everyone reduce their environmental impact.
