More than 1,000 participants at the second edition of PIUT

Victories for the Favorites: Christian Stern and Marie-Luise Mühlhuber Dominate

The second edition of the Paznaun Ischgl Ultra Trail (PIUT) showcased itself at its very best: Under perfect weather conditions, more than 1,000 trail runners took on the sporting challenge and experienced an event that impressed not only with its stunning alpine scenery but also with numerous athletic highlights.

New Standards Set on the Extended Queen's Stage

For the first time, the queen’s distance was extended to 100 kilometers and 6,300 meters of elevation gain – a bold statement on the European trail running calendar. The route followed technically demanding trails along the entire Paznaun High Trail. A mix of steep climbs, challenging sections, and spectacular downhills demanded everything from the participants.

What makes the PIUT unique: 4 villages – 1 event. With start locations in See, Kappl, Galtür, and Ischgl, the event highlights the diversity of the entire Paznaun Valley. Whether 10, 20, 30, 50, 85, or 100 kilometers – each distance had its own special appeal. The routes led through breathtaking high mountain landscapes, past crystal-clear alpine lakes, over rugged mountain passes, and through idyllic valleys.

TIROLEAN TRIUMPH ON THE LONG DISTANCE:

Christian Stern Wins with Outstanding Record Time**

On the extended 100-kilometer ultra-distance, Christian Stern from the Stubai Valley delivered an impressive performance. Germany’s Adrian Niski claimed second place, while Marcus Burger from Vorarlberg completed the podium.

In the women’s race over 100 kilometers, Germany’s Sonka Kinna took a commanding win over the competition.

MÜHLHUBER DEFENDS TITLE – FAVORITES DOMINATE ACROSS ALL DISTANCES

On the 85-kilometer course, Marie-Luise Mühlhuber once again proved unbeatable. With another strong performance, she secured victory and her second consecutive PIUT win. Among the men, Czech runner Thomas Hudec claimed first place, while Markus Lindl was the best Austrian, finishing third.

There were also standout performances on the shorter courses:

  • 50 km: Victory for Isabell Speer – a home win for Tyrol
